Today I invented the expression “raining monkeys and banjos” to be used in place of “raining cats and dogs.” A cursory search of Internet indicates that no one has ever said this before. So, future etymologists, lexicographers, linguists, et al.: now you know exactly where the phrase came from. You’re welcome.
